🔹 Title IV, Part A – Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE)

Purpose: Title IV, Part A provides federal funding to help schools improve student academic achievement by supporting a well-rounded education, safe and healthy students, and effective use of technology.

The goal is to give students access to a broad range of educational opportunities and to enhance learning environments.


🔹 Key Objectives

Title IV, Part A is designed to:

  1. Support a well-rounded education, including subjects like:
    • Arts, music, and STEM
    • College and career readiness programs
    • Civics, history, and foreign languages
  2. Promote safe and healthy students, including:
    • Drug and violence prevention programs
    • Social-emotional learning (SEL)
    • School mental health programs
  3. Improve the effective use of technology to:
    • Enhance digital literacy
    • Support blended learning and access to high-quality digital resources

🔹 Allowable Uses of Title IV, Part A Funds

Districts and schools may use funds for:

  • Professional development for teachers and staff in well-rounded subjects, safety, or technology integration
  • STEM programs, arts, and enrichment activities
  • Mental health services, counseling, and violence prevention programs
  • Digital tools, devices, and infrastructure for learning
  • Programs supporting college and career readiness

⚠️ Funds must supplement, not supplant state and local funds.


🔹 Accountability & Reporting

  • Schools and districts must assess the effectiveness of funded programs in improving student outcomes.
  • Funds should be spent strategically and efficiently, aligned with district and school improvement plans.
  • Schools may set priorities based on local student needs assessments.
