Nondiscrimination and Compliance Notice
In accordance with Title IX (34 CFR §106.8(b)) and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (28 CFR §35.107(b)), the Monroe County Board of Education does not discriminate based on sex or disability in its educational programs, activities, or employment practices. The district has designated a coordinator to ensure compliance with these federal requirements.
Title IX – Education Amendments of 1972 (34 CFR Part 106)
Purpose: Prohibits discrimination based on sex in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
Scope: Applies to students, employees, and applicants. Covers academic programs, athletics, extracurricular activities, admissions, and employment.
Enforcement: The U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) investigates complaints of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. OCR ensures that school districts adopt policies, designate a Title IX coordinator, and provide grievance procedures. (ed.gov OCR Title IX)
Title II – Americans with Disabilities Act, 28 CFR Part 35
Purpose: Prohibits discrimination based on disability by public entities, including public school districts.
Scope: Applies to all programs, services, and activities of public entities, including academic instruction, transportation, and extracurricular activities.
Enforcement: The OCR and the U.S. Department of Justice ensure compliance, including accessibility, reasonable accommodations, and nondiscriminatory practices. (ada.gov)
